Charles Shearer took the reins as the head coach of the Life University men’s volleyball team in the Summer of 2021, bringing with him a wealth of collegiate volleyball experience.

In his first season at the helm, the team held a 17-7 record, advancing to the conference quarterfinals before their season came to a close. Under his leadership two players earned spots on the MSC All-Conference team, while the the squad also had a strong year academically, eight players making the Academic All-Conference list on the way to being recognized as a NAIA Scholar Team.

Shearer’s  experience with collegiate volleyball dates back to his undergraduate studies at Limestone University where he was a four year member of the Inaugural men’s volleyball team, while earning his degree in English. After graduating in 2013, he took part in coaching on the club level, highlighted by an Open National Championship for AAU Boys 17U in 2014, a national second place finish for AAU Girls 17 Premier in 2015, and a third place nationally AAU Girls 18U Premier in 2016. Shearer was at Webber International from 2015-17 acting as an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team, winning a Sun Conference Championship in 2016, and starting a men’s club team which he led.

In 2017, Shearer moved on to Reinhardt University where he acted as the assistant women’s coach from 2017-21. Over his tenure the team won four regular season AAC Titles as well as three AAC Tournament titles, leading to him being named AAC Assistant Coach of the Year in both 2017 and 2019. In 2020, he started their men’s volleyball team, seeing marked improvements from year one to two. Over the two years he coached a pair of MSC First Team All-Conference players and one Second Team All-Conference player.
