Girls Recruiting Coordinator
CJ Sherman
CJ has held a paid position as the Recruiting Coordinator at JJVA since 2009 and is a permanent member of the JJVA staff. In addition to recruiting, CJ has been coaching and assisting student-athletes at JJVA since 2005. In 2004, CJ retired from a very successful NCAA coaching career. She coached at three universities: Palm Beach Atlantic University in 1988 – 1994, the University of South Carolina Aiken 1994-1998, and finally, the University of Montevallo 1999-2004. In 2003, the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) honored her with 300 wins.
CJ has assisted over 300 Jacksonville area athletes achieve their goal of playing college volleyball since 2004.

Girls and Boys Recruiting Coordinator
Melanie Gorter
Melanie, you can call her Mel, has been with JJVA as a Head Coach since 2021. She stepped into the Boys Recruiting Coordinator Position in 2022 to fill the growing need of our athletes to build connections with collegiate men’s programs across the country. Mel played at the college level and has 15+ years of Boys and Girls Coaching Experience in Club, High School Varsity, and as a College Head Coach. Since 2016, she has participated in international coaching and volleyball team travel experiences in Europe, Central America, and Asia.
Starting in June 2024, Mel will be joining the girls side of JJVA as the Assistant Recruiting Coordinator. She will be facilitating conversions with college coaches during tournaments and through Sports Recruits on behalf of the girls program. She will continue efforts with JJVA Boy teams throughout the year through FieldLevel for all age groups.
Mel will be concentrating on building relationships with the girls program Class 2026, 2027 and 2028. She will assist CJ Sherman during her continued focus on the Class of 2025 and 2026 this coming 2024-2025 girls club season.
